110L Triethylaluminum (TEAL) / MAO Sample Cylinder – UN Certification

1. Key Regulatory Information

Item

Details

UN Number

Triethylaluminum: UN3394; MAO (Methylaluminoxane, organometallic compound): usually classified under UN3394 or UN3399

Hazard Class

Class 4.2 (Self‑igniting substances) + Class 4.3 (Substances which, in contact with water, emit flammable gases)

Packing Group

PG I (Highest danger, subject to the most severe tests)

Cylinder Compatibility

110L sample cylinders shall be made of materials compatible with alkylaluminums (e.g., steel/aluminum with PTFE liner or corrosion‑resistant coating), and shall comply with relevant pressure vessel standards such as GB150 and ASME.

2. UN Certification Process

1. Preliminary Preparation

○ Technical documents: cylinder design drawings, material certificates (e.g., ASME‑certified steel), welding procedure specifications (WPS) and qualifications, liner (PTFE, etc.) compatibility reports, SDS (including Section 14 – Transport Information).

○ Company qualifications: business license, pressure vessel manufacturing license (e.g., Grade C3), quality management system certificates (e.g., ISO 9001).

2. Application and Testing

○ Submit application documents (e.g., “Application for Export Dangerous Goods Packaging Container Quality License”) to the inspection authority or authorized body to apply for UN package design and manufacturing approval.

○ Mandatory tests:

▪ 1.2 m drop test (no leakage),

▪ tightness test (no leakage at 0.3 bar),

▪ hydraulic pressure test (1.5 times the design pressure),

▪ stacking test,

▪ temperature cycling test,

▪ compatibility test with the contents.

3. Audit, Certification and Marking

○ The authority reviews documents and test reports; upon approval, issues the UN certification certificate and the “Inspection Certificate for the Use of Export Dangerous Goods Packaging” (often referred to as the “Hazardous Packaging Certificate”).

○ The cylinder shall be durably and legibly marked with the full UN marking, e.g.:UN 3A1 / X / 110 / CN / [Manufacturer Code] / [Year]All letters and numerals shall be at least 12 mm high.

4. Follow‑up Maintenance

○ Periodic inspection of metal cylinders every 2–5 years; regular inspection of liner integrity to ensure continued compatibility and leak‑tightness.

3. Key Technical Requirements for 110L Sample Cylinders

1. Construction and Materials

○ Steel (UN code “A”) or aluminum (UN code “B”) cylinder with a non‑removable closed top (code “1”).

○ PTFE liner or inert coating to isolate TEAL/MAO from the metal and prevent reaction.

○ Design pressure ≥ 0.6 MPa, with 5%–10% ullage to accommodate thermal expansion.

2. Safety Accessories

○ Equipped with a rupture disc (pressure relief), flame arrester, and anti‑static grounding device.

○ Valves with fluororubber (FKM/Viton) seals, meeting leak‑tight and explosion‑proof requirements.

3. Filling Requirements

○ The total capacity and weight of the cylinder shall be suitable for 110 L.

○ Filling not to exceed 90% of the water capacity (calculated based on density at 35 ℃) to prevent leakage due to thermal expansion.

4. Common Issues and Mitigation

Issue

Mitigation

Material incompatibility with contents

Select materials based on SDS; use inert liners such as PTFE; conduct and retain compatibility test reports.

Non‑compliant marking

Follow UN standards strictly for complete marking; ensure markings are clear and durable to avoid customs issues.

Test failure

Choose manufacturers experienced in alkylaluminum storage and transport containers; conduct pre‑testing for drop, tightness, etc., and make corrections before official submission.

5. Supporting Documents for Sample Shipment

• Basic documents:

○ Chinese/English SDS,

○ Hazardous Packaging Certificate,

○ Transport Condition Assessment Report (for air/sea transport),

○ UN certification report,

○ packing list and invoice.
